http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdnAXnDnu8I - Singaporeans' diet http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0L-bQ7TKlM - Singapore's urban landscape Basically we have uploading series of videos regarding the benefits of having our 2 products to be farmed on Singapore. Along with explanations given above, we have come up with the list and through information of our choices. We chose this two products so that it can earn more money and both are healthy. The reasons
Choose a location to site your farming activities. - Take into account updated housing or other development plans in Singapore - Your method of farming should work well on the piece of land - Consider supply of water, fertilisers and accessibility to the store/market to sell or process food/food products. For the food we choose, all of the food are suitable to farm in Singapore. Singapore had already decided top stop importing various food stock and food products from various countries in order to reduce importing costs and concentrate on investment on recreational facilities and boost the tourism industry. Singapore climate is able to farm few kinds of food, for example, vegetables, fish or wheat etc. We chose this food because it is easier to farm in Singapore's climate and the diet of Singaporeans. Singaporeans are used to eating food that is healthy because Singapore is a clean and green country. Such food also won't run out as we can farm a lot in one go. So food shortage will not be a problem. For the farming part, all the food we chose to farm in Singapore are suitable to farm and the climate is right and the fertilisers are easy to get. Some are just natural gas, just like wheat which need nitrogen ! Singapore's soil is also suitable as it can carries out the process of being farm. In years time, Singapore government will be having more development plans and more housing will be build. So there will be less land for us to farm our food. In Singapore, it is a crowded. There is limited land so it is a problem for us to find land to farm our food. We may choose to pay higher price for the land or demolish old buildings to have more land, so that we can get our land and farm our food. Singapore wanted to boost their tourism industry and recreational facilities so they are spending more money to do such stuffs. By doing this,, we can buy the land and help them. For the part that supply of water, fertilisers are able to get easily from Singapore market. For the water, we can use the water from the river and use the irrigation way to water our props. Firstly, it is easier and we won't need a long time to farm our plant. Secondly, we won't waste any water by doing that. After farming all our food and everything is ready, we are ready to sell our food and package it. We can recommend our product to Singapore supermarket like Shop&Save, Fairprice etc to let them sell our products so that people can buy our food. Food to farm in Singapore
Second choice --> Cabbage How to Grow Cabbage - Nutrition Information Source of: Chromium, dietary fiber, vitamin C, K, Folate, Potassium, Manganese, vitamin A, Thiamin, Vitamin B6, Calcium, Iron and Magnesium How to Grow Cabbage - Climate & Growing Conditions Growing cabbage can be done in a wide range of garden climates, but it will grow best as a cool weather crop. Cabbage will tolerate frost, but not extremely hot temperatures (whcih make the heads split). How to Grow Cabbage - Prepare the Garden Soil Growing cabbage works best in sunny well-drained garden soils that have compost and manure added. Soil pH should be 5.5 or higher. The more fertile your soil, the faster the cabbage will grow, and the better the quality of the vegetable. Prepare the garden soil before planting with a fertilizer rich in nitrogen and potash. Plan to grow your cabbages rapidly and keep them well watered. However, frequent watering can cause nutrients to leach from the garden soil. Keeping the garden beds well mulched and applying doses of a nitrogen fertilizer ever other week will replenish nutrients and food to the garden soil, providing optimal growing conditions for your crop. Plant in summer and spring, in cool zones. Plant year round in other climates. Sow seeds indoors iat ¼” deep and 3” apart in seed beds, then transplant into garden beds when seedlings are 5-6 weeks old, with 4-5 true leaves showing. Plant seedlings deeply, up to the first leaves, 2' apart in rows 3' apart (or follow the spacing indicated by your variety's size). Harden off the seedlings a couple of days just before transplanting. For more information on starting seeds indoors . How to Grow Cabbage - Watering For best results when growing cabbage, water frequently, keeping the topsoil moist at all times. If you have a dry weather period, water garden soil (regularly) thoroughly once a week. If you miss a watering and rain comes after a dry spell, you’ll likely see your cabbage heads splitting. How to Grow Cabbage - Fertilizing This vegetable prefers slightly acidic soils. Prepare your cabbage garden beds ahead of time by applying dolomite and a complete fertilizer. Water the garden bed immediately after preparing. During the gardening season, when the cabbages start to form firm heads, apply a light dressing of urea. Food to farm in Singapore First -->Wheat The choice is wheat. wheat is the leading source of vegetable protein in human food, having a higher protein content than either maize (corn) or rice. In terms of total production tonnages used for food, it is currently second to rice as the main human food crop. It grows best when temperatures are warm, from 70° to 75° F (21° to 24° C). Wheat also needs a lot of sunshine, especially when the grains are filling.Sigapore climate is just around the temperature. Method - Seed was once sown by hand and harvested with a sickle. One improvement was the cradle, a scythe with a framework that caught the stalks as they were cut. Flails or the trampling feet of oxen threshed the grain from the straw. Such methods required three to four hours… Fertillizer - Nitrogen. Location - Due to wheat don need that much og water,we can put it near the area that has more lan than water. About Singapore
Singapore is a small, diamond-shaped island in the Southeastern Asia, having Malaysia and Indonesia as the neighbors for Singapore is set in their betweens. Singapore lies just off the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula. To its north, linked by the causeway, stands Malaysia. It is about 137 km north of the Equator, while the size of Singapore is 42 km long and 23 km wide. Besides, there are 58 much smaller offshore islets set in Singapore's territorial waters. To conclude Singapore and the small 58 islets, the Republic of Singapore has a total landmass of 646 sq km. The biggest of Singapore's other islands are Pulau Tekong (18 sq km,) which is a military area but planned to be semi-residential; and Pulau Ubin (10 sq km,) which is a rural haven from the heart of Singapore. As Singapore is the island, its deep water anchorage and natural harbor on the Strait of Malacca naturally makes it become a strategic location for shipping on the sea-route between the Indian Ocean and the South China Sea. |
